Jason lost a friend on Wednesday. I may have mentioned him before. He was in residency with Jeff, so he's known him for 10 years. We see him and his family only occasionally but always enjoy their company.
Last spring he and his wife flew to Ethiopia to adopt a daughter, their third child. He felt terrible on the plane, but thought it was the flu. When they arrived, his wife went to meet their daughter at the orphanage while he stayed at the hotel. She returned to find him passed out on the floor. After a trip to a local hospital, it was determined he had a brain tumor. They decided to risk flying back to the US to have it removed instead of having an inexperienced physician remove it there.
They made it to DC, where they presented in the ER with films and a patient clinging to life. It was successfully removed, and he began chemo/radiation. They ended up adopting their daughter, Abby, and bringing her back in August. Jason got to meet her during one of his visits with Jeff and fell in love. It was around Thanksgiving, and Jeff was in and out of lucidity, but at least she got to know him when he was "normal." He is now with Jesus, and his family is resting in the hope that his body is whole again.
